ITALY: The city of Roma has awarded Hitachi Rail a framework contract to supply up to 30 metro trainsets for Lines A and B.
The contract was signed on December 29 after an unsuccessful appeal from another bidder, and includes a firm order for 12 trainsets for Line B and two for Line A.
Deliveries are to start in December 2024 and continue the following year, enabling the first trainsets to enter service in time for the Catholic Church’s 2025 Jubilee Year.
Additional orders could take the total value of the contract to €264m.
‘Roma is back to investing in new vehicles and infrastructure’, said Eugenio Patané, city councillor with responsibility for transport. ‘It’s a long complex work and it will still take a long time to reach the goals we have set, but we are constantly working to give the city transport that is finally worthy of a great European capital.’
