IMAGING: Rail Runner Express trains in New Mexico have been fitted with digital cameras which synchronise video with data from event recorders.
Jointly developed by Railhead Vision Systems and Wi-Tronix, the technology generates a single downloadable file containing both video and data.
Authorised staff are alerted if an emergency brake application occurs, and can remotely download video and event recorder data. The driver's actions are viewable, along with a view from the cab.
'We can know for sure exactly what happened on one of our trains,' said New Mexico Secretary of Transportation Rhonda Faught. 'It's like having a second set of eyes around at all times.'
