NETHERLANDS Railways’ passenger business NS Reizigers has started using iTM1 software from Applix to analyse passenger traffic data. The software is being used for four principal functions: project administration; passenger flow analysis; punctuality; and sales forecasting.
iTM1 allows users to manipulate information on punctuality, traffic volumes, passenger responsiveness and backgrounds, ticket types, and station and route based revenue. The iTM1.web module recently added to the package by Applix enables operators to distribute information securely to other companies over the internet.
According to NS Information System Manager Michel Fremouw, ’we now have the ability to try out innovative new pilot schemes. We can try out a scheme such as a new type of discount ticket on one stretch of track, analyse the results, and measure its success. We can then roll it out on a larger scale with the confidence that it will work.’
