AUSTRALIAN train builder A Goninan & Co has ordered nine auxiliary power supply systems from Transtechnik, for use on the fleet of standard-gauge diesel railcars which it is building to replace the existing stock on Western Australia’s Prospector and Avonlink services from Perth to Kalgoorlie and Northam.
Each of the nine systems consists of an auxiliary converter unit, containing two identical inverters and two alternators. The alternators are driven by the railcar engine, and supply the converter with 530VDC. The converter outputs three 415VAC auxiliary power supplies, and 24VDC to charge the vehicle battery. The converters can also be connected directly to the workshop power supply when the units are at a depot.
