THE Buenos Aires city council has approved plans for three more metro routes totalling 22 km. Bringing a metro station within 400m of some 2 million residents or 70% of the city’s total population, Lines F, G and I are likely to be taken forward as build-operate-transfer projects. The aim is to award 30-year concessions to the private sector, which would contribute 600m pesos to the cost of the programme.

The city government expects to provide 900m pesos towards construction of the three lines, which together with Line H and extensions to existing routes (RG 6.01 p374) would take the network to 97 km. With 13 stations, Line F would run from Constitución to Plaza Italia. Line G from Retiro to Cid Campeador has 11 stations, and Line I from Emilio Mitre to Plaza Italia 10 stations.
