SHANGHAI Rail Gourmet Co has been created as a station and on-board catering joint venture of Rail Gourmet and Shanghai Railway Administration.
From April 18 it will serve 2500 meals per day on four fast trains linking Shanghai with Beijing. The 15-year agreement provides for expansion to further services and stations in the Shanghai region. Compass Group is the majority shareholder, and Chief Executive Michael J Bailey believes that ’there is tremendous market potential for catering services not just on board trains but also on railway stations.’
