DALAL Mott MacDonald has won a Delhi Metro Rail Corp contract worth £9m covering detailed structural and architectural design of Mandi House station on Line 3.
Electrical and mechanical design is being undertaken by Delhi Metro Rail Corp, which prepared the outline structural and architectural designs. Construction of the station is already underway and is scheduled to be completed by May 2006.
The station will be 27m wide at each end and 57m in the middle. The 185m long platforms will be located outside the tracks, linked at their midpoints by a bridge through a mezzanine level with ticket sales facilities and plant rooms.
There will be four entrances, two escalators and four lifts.
The station is being built beneath the busy Sikandra Road, and will be built top-down to minimise traffic disruption. Diaphragm wall panels will be built at ground level, and the road excavated to the level of the underside of the roof, which will then be constructed. The road will then be reinstated, with work on the station continuing beneath the roof.
