INDIA: Rail Coach Factory rolled out its first double-deck coach for trials between Delhi and Muradabad on March 31. A double-deck train is expected to be in service by the end of the year.
The stainless steel car was developed by RCF and Research Design & Standard Organisation over nine months to cater for heavy peak commuter traffic. Designed for 160 km/h running, it offers 128 seats, air-conditioning and a retention toilet. It is just 115 mm higher than single deck cars, so will require only minor work to increase clearances.
