CUBIC Transportation Systems announced a $3·4m expansion of its fare collection contract with the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District on November 9.

Cubic will embed its Tri-Reader smart card readers in BART access gates and ticket vending machines, allowing passengers to use and top-up the TransLink stored value smart card valid on all regional public transport. Tri-Reader can handle any type of ISO-14443 contactless smart card.

’BART serves four Bay Area counties and links to many other transit systems. Giving our customers the ability to add value to the shared TransLink e-purse on the TVMs in our rail stations is essential to customer convenience and access and provides a regional benefit’, said Chris Quinn, BART Automatic Fare Collection Project Manager.

H Cubic Transportation Systems has received a €3·5m contract from Modena transport authority ATCM to install and maintain contactless smart card ticketing on the Italian city’s bus and rail services. A five-year extension to its existing service contract is worth €300000.
