CATALAN regional operator FGC has unveiled a 2005-07 investment plan costed at €602·9m.
On its main network serving Barcelona, €387m is to be spent on infrastructure by the regional government’s public works department, while half of the €166m allocated to operations has been earmarked for new trains and rolling stock refurbishment.
Service frequencies on the Igualada route are to be increased through the acquisition of 13 new trainsets, with deliveries due to start in August 2006. On FGC’s 1435mm gauge network, a 6min frequency is to be provided as far as Terrassa by diverting some services from the Tibidabo branch.
Platforms at Provença, Gràcia and Sarrià will be extended and the stations at Sant Gervasi and Peu del Funicular refurbished. During 2005 FGC is planning to install ticket-operated barrier gates at all stations.
- On January 1 ownership of the 88·2 km Lleida - La Pobla de Segur route was transferred to the Catalunya regional government which is now paying Renfe Operadora €1·8m a year to provide passenger services. FGC is conducting an infrastructure audit and is due to present in the second quarter of 2005 its service proposals and timetable for the acquisition of new rolling stock.
