PASSENGERS travelling with KLM and several partner airlines can now travel to and from Amsterdam Schiphol airport by train free of charge, following conclusion of a contract between KLM and Netherlands Railways. The service applies only to airline tickets issued in the Netherlands, which are valid for rail travel on the day of departure or the previous day, as well as the day of return and the following day. Business class ticket holders may travel first class on NS trains without supplement.

Together with other NS services for which a charge is made, such as home luggage collection and the Treintaxi link to stations, the new scheme offers seamless door-to-door service and is expected to increase substantially the current 30% of air passengers who reach Schiphol by train. KLM says the arrangement should eliminate passengers’ concerns over traffic congestion and parking. The scheme will run for a minimum of 12 months. n
