AUGUST 7 saw the start of revenue services on a further section of Genova’s automated light metro, between Principe and San Giorgio, following an official inauguration on July 25. The line is being built and operated for the city by AnsaldoBreda.
The initial 3·5 km between Brin and Dinegro was opened in 1990, and the 660m from Dinegro to an interchange with FS at Principe followed two years later. Services to Principe were suspended last December to permit completion of the 1284m extension, which includes an intermediate station at Darsena.
A further underground section is under construction between San Giorgio and Brignole at the eastern end of the line, serving stations at Sarzano, De Ferrari and Corvetto. Together with a 550m elevated extension north from Brin to Canepari, this will bring the line to a total length of 7 km and 10 stations.
