CROATIAN Railways plans to put into service next month the last of a fleet of 12 first class coaches being refurbished by TZV Gredelj. The vehicles are being completely rebuilt, retaining only the original bodyshell and Wegman 26 bogies.
On completion of the work, each of the 47 seats will have a power socket for a laptop computer. The vehicles have been modernised under a contract signed in 2001, which also covers work on 26 second class coaches and 10 sleeping cars. The refurbished day coaches are painted in HZ’s new white, grey and red livery, with the sleeping cars carrying a white and blue colour scheme.
Suitable for a maximum speed of 160 km/h, the sleeping cars are to be used on Beograd - Zürich and Zagreb - München services, and the day cars on Zagreb - Split domestic trains.
