A TRAIN-mounted Electronic Train Protection & Warning System which combines Thales Communications’ Electronic Automatic Warning System with a TPWS aerial in a single module is under test on 10 of GNER’s inter-city electric locomotives.
Intended for use by train operators who are upgrading their existing Automatic Warning System, the combined E-TPWS is simpler to mount and occupies less space than separate units. A single cable connects it to the TPWS control module.
The solid-state E-AWS is designed to overcome problems with varying track magnet signal strengths, so repeated adjustments are no longer required.
