INTRO: eurailSpeed 2005 will examine the latest developments and the future outlook for high speed railways, focusing on the main theme of High Speed Rail - Railways’ Leading Asset for Customers and Society
Eurailspeed 2005, the 5th World High Speed Rail Congress, will be held in Milano, Italy, on November 7-9. It will bring together more than 1000 decision-makers involved in the development of high speed rail transport: policymakers, elected officials, representatives of international and European organisations, financial institutions, industry and research bodies, and of course, from railway companies, infrastructure managers, operators and partners co-operating with the railways.
Under the official patronage of the European Commission, eurailSpeed 2005 is being organised by Europoint on behalf of the International Union of Railways (UIC) in close co-operation with Italian Railways (Ferrovie dello Stato), which is celebrating its centenary in 2005.
Jacques Barrot, Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of Transport, Pietro Lunardi, Minister of Infrastructure & Transport from Italy, and Philippe de Fontaine Vive, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank, are among the confirmed speakers. They will be joined by top executives and managers from the railway and public works sector and by prominent personalities from the European Union, government representatives from Europe, the United States and Asia.
Commercial, political, technical
The central theme of eurailSpeed 2005 is High Speed Rail - Railways’ Leading Asset for Customers and Society. Discussions will focus on the commercial, political, financial and technical aspects of high speed rail services which are now a key product for revival of the rail mode in Europe and other continents.
eurailSpeed 2005 will consist of a conference and an exhibition: the World Congress offers three days of formal presentations with plenary and parallel sessions as well as round table discussions, and the Trade Exhibition is open to railways, suppliers and rail sector institutions, public works and infrastructure companies, service providers and railway partners contributing to operation of high speed services.
Participants will be able to visit an exhibition of high speed trains at Milano Porta Garibaldi station and they will have a choice of three technical visits.
Other partners contributing to eurailSpeed are the Community of European Railway & Infrastructure Companies (CER), the European Association of Infrastructure Managers (EIM), the Association of European Railway Industries (UNIFE), the European Construction Industry Federation (FIEC) and the US High Speed Ground Transportation Association (HSGTA).
