SAFT-AEG Industrial Systems has introduced an Uninterruptible Power Supply design for railway use. The 25 kV traction supply is used as the main power source, with the local utilities as back-up. If both power supplies are lost at once the battery can provide power for 10 min. Up to four traction rectifier/charger modules can be mounted in a rack, arranged in parallel to increase the power capability or to provide redundancy. An input filter and spike suppressor guarantee a smooth DC supply to the battery and inverter. Digital electronics regulate the varying input voltage for the overhead lines, providing a regulated DC supply.
