SPAIN: Infrastructure manager ADIF has awarded a consortium of Dimetronic and Thales a contract to supply signalling and telecoms for the Madrid – Valencia high speed line, which at €585m is thought to be the largest ERTMS order placed to date.
As well as ETCS Level 1 and 2 train protection, the contract involves the supply of interlockings, track circuits and CTC for the 363 km from the Madrid – Sevilla route at Torrejón de Velasco to Valencia, and the 77 km branch from Motilla del Palancar to Albacete. Dimetronic and Thales will also be responsible for auxiliary detectors, signalling power supplies and maintenance over three years.
Work is due to take 27 months to complete, with the first section of the Madrid – Valencia route due to open in 2010. Consortium leader Dimetronic has valued its share of the contract at €126m.
Other recent contract awards for the Madrid – Valencia project include rail for the 145 km Gabaldón – Almussafes section that ArcelorMittal España is to supply for €35·4m. ADIF has placed two contracts to supply sleepers worth a total of €21·7m, and two ballast contracts worth €13·6m.
