DURING a worksite visit on August 14, Venezuela’s Minister of Infrastructure José David Cabello Rondón confirmed that Metro Los Teques from Las Adjuntas to El Tambor (MR 05 p28) was on course to open on October 22, and that the route would be extended to the centre of Los Teques. Work would begin ’on the same day as the opening’, he said.
Civil works on the 9·5 km route were reckoned to be 95% complete as of August 11, with tracklaying completed in the Río Cristal and Carrizalito tunnels as well as on the open section between La Línea and Río Cristal. Track is being installed by the Frameca consortium under a €204m turnkey E&M contract that includes signalling, power supplies, telecommunications and a fleet of six four-car trainsets.
The first trainset to be delivered by Alstom and Bombardier was landed at Puerto Cabello on July 30 and was due to move by road to the Metro de Caracas depot at Las Adjuntas last month.
