SWISS intermodal operator Hupac is taking delivery of two fleets of new wagons aimed at increasing the company’s share of transalpine freight. One design is a low-floor wagon for high-cube containers and swap bodies, the other is an ultra-low-floor rolling motorway wagon with small wheel bogies.
Delivery of 120 Mega II twin-section wagons began in January 2004, and 30 are now available to Hupac customers. The first wagons were put into service on an intermodal shuttle service between Duisburg in the Ruhr region of Germany and Novara in northern Italy which Hupac launched in partnership with Cemac and Kombiverkehr.
