AS PART OF the design process for the Citytunneln project in Malmö, a new route under the city centre linking Central station and the Øresund fixed link including 4 km of twin-bore tunnels 20 m below ground, Ødegaard & Danneskiold-Samsøe was commissioned to model the ground-borne noise and vibration likely to be generated by railway operations. In addition to a modified finite element model, ØDS used OSIRIS, its own three-dimensional wave propagation model.
Final results produced by the two models were broadly identical. Test measurements subsequently undertaken by the Citytunneln Consortium in ground conditions similar to those in Malmö were close to the values produced by the finite element model.
