Brazil: Carajás Railway has ordered 550 ore hopper wagons of 130 tonne capacity from local builder Amsted Maxion.
China: Huanghua port has ordered two tandem wagon tipplers for export coal from Germany's Krupp Fördertechnik.
Germany: DB has signed a letter of intent with Adtranz to buy a further 24 Class 146 electric locos, to be delivered from August 2001. Designed to haul double-deck push-pull trains, the locos are a 160 km/h variant of Class 145.
General Motors EMD has received official certification for operation of its JT42CWR locomotives in Germany. One of two locos on lease to Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln is to enter service on container trains between Köln and Basel.
India: IR's tender approval committee has recommended ordering 50 sets of traction equipment from General Electric to power 3100hp diesel-electric locos being developed by DLW Varanasi. Meanwhile, IR has offered to use surplus capacity at CLW Chittaranjan to supply Adtranz with components manufactured under the ABB technology-transfer agreement signed in 1993.
Netherlands: Alstom Traxis is to supply traction equipment, train management and passenger information systems for the 252 double-deck EMU cars ordered from Bombardier by NS Reizigers.
Romania: Facing a shortfall of serviceable rolling stock, CFR-Marfa has ordered 130 wagons from Romvag Caracal for delivery later this year.

USA: Trinity Industries has received the first order for its TRINcool?? refrigerated wagon, which uses satellite communications to detect temperature variations. BNSF will take 700 of the units, which have almost twice the capacity of its existing wagons.
Talgo America Inc has prequalified in a bid to supply a fleet of 13 trainsets able to run at 200 km/h on routes linking Chicago to Saint Louis, Milwaukee, Madison, Pontiac and Detroit. A contract worth around $220m will be awarded by Amtrak and the transport departments of Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin as part of the Midwest Regional Rail Initiative.
