Belgium: Infrabel has awarded Siemens a €105m contract to supply and install TBL1+ and ETCS Level 1 equipment at 4000 signals; Siemens will also be responsible for maintenance over 20 years.
Germany: Angel Trains has placed a €25m order with Siemens for 11 Eurorunner ER20 diesel-electric locos. They will be leased to Arriva for use under its 10-year contract to operate services from München to Oberstdorf. Lindau, Regensburg, Hof and Fürth im Wald from December 9 2007 (RG 8.06 p430).
India: Rail Vikas Nigam has awarded Indonesian firm Adhi Karya a US$67m contract for civil and bridge works on a 100 km double track line in Orissa.
Italy: Rail Traction Company has purchased five ES64F4 multi-system locomotives which it has being leasing from Dispolok for two years for use on München - Verona freight trains. RTC has also leased an additional three locos from Dispolok, which will continue to maintain the five locos sold.
Netherlands: The first of 43 low-floor GTW diesel railcars ordered by Arriva from Stadler (RG 7.05 p412) arrived in the country on August 8, and has since begun night time testing. They will replace 16 single-car DH1 and 31 two-car DH2 'Wadloper' units.
Poland: Transmash Holding's Bryansk works has supplied a TEM18 six-axle diesel-electric shunter for the PKP LHS 1520mm gauge line. Orders for similar locos have been received from Kazakhstan and Guinea.
A consortium led by Arcadis has been awarded a contract for the €220m modernisation of a 60 km stretch of the Lodz - Skierniewice line. The 127 km route from Lodz to Warszawa is to be upgraded to permit 160 km/h operation by July 2008.
Spain: Tenders have been invited for a contract worth up to €110·4m to build a new alignment at Puebla de San Juli? n on the Monforte de Lemos - Lugo route, avoiding 16 level crossings. A single 1668mm gauge track is to be laid at first on a formation designed for two electrified 1435mm gauge tracks.
The Ministry of Development has been authorised to call tenders for a contract to undertake track renewals and formation repairs on the 50·6 km section of the Barcelona - La Tour-de-Carol route between Ripoll and the French border. A budget of €51·6m has been set for the work which includes relaying with UIC54 rail.
Sweden: Last month Hector Rail signed an order with Vossloh for a 2700 kW G2000 diesel loco, which will be used to haul timber trains on the Hoting - Forsmo line from early 2007 on behalf of forest products company SCA.
Turkmenistan: TPK has taken delivery of the last of 30 sleeping cars and 20 day coaches ordered under a contract signed with Chinese Capital-Longji Sci-Tech, which is providing an eight-year credit to fund the acquisition of the coaches and 48 diesel locos.
United Kingdom: Network Rail has commissioned Transmitton to upgrade traction power supply Scada equipment at Paddock Wood and to migrate the Slough electrical control room to Romford. Work will be completed during 2007.
Vrigin West Coast and Alstom have selected Serco to design a data analysis system for use with the on-train monitoring recorders on the operator's Pendolino trainsets. Data which is currently under-exploited will be used to provide a more detailed approach to component monitoring and driver standards compliance.
Wabtec Rail has been awarded a £14·5m contract to refurbish 103 MkIII coaches leased from Angel Trains and Porterbrook by GNER. Wabtec's Doncaster site will complete the work by the end of 2008, replicating the 'Mallard' refurbishment of GNER's MkIV stock (RG 11.03 p689).
USA: New Jersey Transit Corp has awarded Wabtec Corp's MotivePower subsidiary a $8m contract to supply five remanufactured 'clean diesel' shunting locomotives in 2007.
Norfolk Southern has ordered two RP20BD low-emission shunting loco conversion kits from RailPower Technologies, with an option for further locos in 2007-09. They will be converted from existing locos by the Thoroughbred Mechanical Services division of Norfolk Southern in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
Virginia Railway Express has exercised a $109m option with Sumitomo Corp for an additional 50 gallery cars for delivery by the end of 2008. Bodyshells will be manufactured by Nippon Sharyo's Toyokawa plant in Japan, with final assembly at Super Steel in Milwaukee.
Venezuela: IAFE has signed a contract worth US$825m with Astaldi, Ghella and Impregilo for the construction of seven stations, two freight terminals and two rolling stock maintenance depots on the Puerto Cabello - La Encrucijada route. Including commissioning of the new line, the contract forms part of a package of options exercised by IAFE which are worth a total of US$1·5bn (RG 6.06 p306).
