Australia: The NSW government has appointed CSFB as financial advisor for the sale of FreightCorp. Macquarie Bank is to advise the Commonwealth government on the sale of National Rail.

Canada: GO Transit has awarded a C$38m contract to Bombardier for the mid-life refurbishment of 56 bi-level commuter rail coaches and 15 driving cars at Thunder Bay by the end of 2004.

CPR has ordered 51 AC locos of 4 400hp from General Electric for delivery in 2001.

CN’s Transcona works is to overhaul 18 locos which the railway is selling to Locomotive Leasing Partners; the deal includes an option for another 18.

France: Lohr Industrie subsidiary Modalohr has developed at a cost of Fr70m a pocket wagon capable of carrying 4m high trailers and their tractors within the UIC GB1 loading gauge. With a height of 100mm above rail, the floor pivots to allow loading without ramps.

Faiveley Transport has won contracts to supply on-board video surveillance for 53 trams in Strasbourg, and for c2c and Connex EMUs in the UK.

Great Britain: Railtrack has selected Alstom to undertake project definition for resignalling work under the £50m Cardiff Valleys Enhancement Scheme. The work will be carried out by an alliance of Railtrack, Alstom (signalling), Mowlem (civils) and Jarvis (permanent way). Implementation is due to get under way in the summer.

Iran: Mashhad Urban Railway Co has invited tenders for supply of small tracklaying machinery.

Lithuania: Adtranz signed an agreement to upgrade automatic and electrical systems on the 127 km Kaisiadorys - Radviliskis route on December 1. The two-year project will be funded by 15m euro of a 40m euro EBRD loan.

Netherlands: NS has bought 150 coaches from German Railway for DM110m. To be refurbished by PFA for DM100m, they will be delivered from August 2001.
