Algeria: SNTF has called tenders for the supply of 21 track maintenance machines, including six tamping, levelling and lining units and six ballast regulators. Two vehicles for overhead line maintenance are also required.
Australia: Alstom Australia has been awarded a contract to provide rolling stock and infrastructure maintenance for the Hillside Trains commuter franchise in Victoria (RG 8.99 p488).
Clyde Engineering has awarded Tebel Technologies (Australia) an A$12·5m contract to supply and maintain passenger, cab and intercar door systems for double-deck EMUs ordered by Sydney’s City Rail (RG 3.99 p161).
Austria: ÖBB has ordered 20 couchette cars from Adtranz MÁV Dunakeszi of Hungary for HF5·5bn, with auxiliary power converters and air-conditioning equipment to be supplied by Adtranz Austria. The cars are due to be delivered between January and April 2001 for services to Amsterdam, Berlin and Brussels.
Canada: CN has ordered a Navigator computer-aided dispatching system from GE Harris Railway Electronics, which control movements over both lines equipped with CTC and unsignalled routes. A total of 17 workstations will be supplied, capable of integration with local and remote networks using off-the-shelf computers.
CP has rolled out the first of 49 SD90-43MAC locomotives assembled at its Ogden workshops, which form part of an order for 81 placed with General Motors of Canada. They are equipped with 4300hp engines but designed for upgrading with a 6000hp power plant.
CPR subsidiary St Lawrence & Hudson Railway has contracted Progress Rail Services Corp to operate its locomotive and wagon maintenance facility in St Luc yard, Montréal.
China: Under a contract worth A$10m, Tebel Technologies (Australia) is to supply 1090 electrically-actuated sliding plug doors for 13 eight-car metro trainsets, ordered from Mitsubishi Electric of Japan and Hyundai Precision & Industry Co of South Korea for the Hong Kong MTR extension to Tseung Kwan O.
MTR Corp has awarded CLP Engineering Ltd an HK64·4m contract to supply and install station communications systems on the Tseung Kwan O extension. GEC (Hong Kong) Ltd has won an HK$192·8m contract to provide building services, including the installation of environmental, fire detection and electrical systems, for Tseung Kwan O and Tiu Keng Leng stations.
France: RATP has ordered 12 five-car MI2N double-deck trainsets from Alstom Transport and Bombardier subsidiary ANF-Industrie. Deliveries are due to take place between February 2001 and February 2002.
Germany: Eurobahn Verkehrsgesellschaft, a subsidiary of VIA GTI and Bahngesellschaft AG, has ordered six three-car Talent DMUs from Bombardier Transportation for DM25m. Seating 137 passengers each, they will be deployed on the Bielefeld - Lemgo and Bielefeld - Rahden routes from May 2000.
Under a contract worth DM2·5m, Transtechnik is supplying 60 Combiverter 25-2 auxiliary power converters rated at 12 kW, 25 kVA for light rail vehicles being built by Adtranz for Berlin.
Great Britain: Railtrack has awarded Balfour Beatty Rail Projects a £30m contract to renew track and catenary on 3·2route-km as part of the £165m Leeds 1st station remodelling programme. Work will take 30 months to complete.
ABB Steward has been awarded a £11m contract to refurbish mechanical and electrical equipment at Moorfields and Central stations in Liverpool. Due for completion by mid-2000, work will include installation of a low-voltage substation and emergency lighting.
Indonesia: PT Inka has awarded Tebel Technologies (Australia) an A$1m contract to supply air-actuated sliding plug doors for 140 km/h JS950 coaches under construction for Perumka’s Jakarta - Surabya services.
Italy: A consortium of Alstom, ABB SAE and Semes has been awarded a contract worth 71m euros to renew catenary on the Rho - Domodossola and Genova - Savona routes. Work is scheduled for completion by mid-2002.
FS has invited expressions of interest from potential private sector partners in a venture that will operate its Rimini diesel locomotive workshops.
Netherlands: NS Reizigers has called tenders for trailer cars to extend its 34 three-car IRM double-deck EMU formations to four cars. All 47 existing four-car IRM trainsets will be extended to six cars by adding one trailer and one motor car.
Portugal: Under a contract worth 45m euros, Alcatel has supplied signalling, telecommunications and fare collection systems for the 28 km cross-Tagus line (RG 4.98 p256), including 215 signals and 137 point machines. Some of the 10 stations have been equipped with ticket-operated barrier gates.
Romania: A total of 31 bidders have prequalified for upgrading the Bucharest - Brasov route, with a shortlist of up to six expected shortly. Six bidders have been shortlisted for the associated consultancy contract.
South Africa: Spoornet’s Coallink business unit has awarded Interfleet Technology of Great Britain a contract to develop gearbox modifications for its Class 7E and 11E locomotives in order to improve reliability and availability.
Taiwan: Taiwan Railway Administration has awarded Alcatel a contract worth 25m euros to supply axle-counters, to be installed across the majority of the network within the next two years.
USA: BNSF has ordered 159 articulated Auto-Max wagons from Gunderson Inc. Equipped with three adjustable decks, each vehicle can accommodate up to 22 vans or light trucks.
UP has awarded StarTrak a contract to fit 100 car-carrying wagons with its satellite-based HealthTrak system, which determines location and monitors any movement that may damage the load.
Chicago Transit Authority has selected Harmon Industries for a $28m contract to supply a train control system including cab signalling for the 8·8 km State Street subway. Work is now under way for completion in 2001.
