WE JUMPED to the wrong conclusion last month in our report on events in Taiwan on January 27. It appears that, although there were indeed around 500 guests at Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp’s ceremony in Tainan, they were not in fact allowed to ride on the Series 700T trainset. It was a case of see but don’t touch, with the edge of the platform cordoned off to prevent access to the train.
As our report indicated, only last minute preparations had enabled the train to run under its own power at all, and the suggestion is that more needs to be done before the trains are able to carry passengers. No doubt there will soon be an occasion when THSRC will allow its potential customers to taste the future.
