UK inter-city train operator GNER announced on August 11 that it is preparing a business case to install broadband internet access on its trains. Subject to the outcome of a pilot project between King’s Cross and Scotland for three months starting in mid-September, GNER plans to fit the equipment to its 10 diesel HSTs first and then to its 30 electric IC225 sets early next year. The work will be phased to fit in with the operator’s present fleet refurbishment programme.
The trains would be the first in the UK to be fitted with the Wireless Onboard Internet
