THE FIRST order for Ultra Low Floor trams from outside their home city of Wien was announced on January 17, when Siemens Mobility won a €27m order to supply 10 cars to the western Romanian city of Oradea.
Based on the shorter variant of the 300 ULF trams now in service with or being delivered to Wiener Linien, the five-section vehicles will be 24 m long. The first will arrive in April, with six scheduled for delivery this year. The remainder will arrive in 2009. The contract includes maintenance for four years.
OTL Oradea operates a 20 km three-line standard gauge network electrified at 750 V DC, and has a fleet of 118 Tatra trams.
