JULY 2007 has been set as the target date for delivery of the first series-built MF2000 metro cars for Paris. The consortium of Alstom, Bombardier and Areva TA announced on May 10 that RATP had ordered an initial batch as part of its framework contract for 161 five-car sets.

Valued at €194m, the initial option covers 45 trainsets for use on Line 2 between Porte Dauphine and Nation. Deliveries will run from July 2007 to December 2009. Further builds are expected to replace MF67 stock on Lines 5 and 9.

The prototype MF2000 trainset was delivered in January 2006 and is currently being tested by RATP on Lines 2 and 5. Each train is formed of two driving trailers and three intermediate motor cars, with a total length of 75·75m and capacity for 557 passengers when crush loaded. n
