Netherlands Railways is to re-organise its service patterns in December, eliminating semi-fast regional trains to reduce conflicting train paths and enable more services to operate. There will generally be four inter-city and four stopping services in each direction per hour in the Randstad area, with two inter-city and two stopping trains elsewhere in the country. Inter-city trains will make more frequent stops on some routes, but passengers will need to change trains more frequently.

JR Kyushu has installed video telephones at Hakata station, allowing passengers to communicate with the railway’s call centre by sign language. Interpreters are also available to aid speakers of Korean, Chinese, and five European languages.

UK operator GNER has agreed a financing facility with Barclays Bank to fund a £32·5m programme of station upgrades. The package is ’designed to meet the specific requirements of private franchised train operators’, with flexible drawdown patterns and interest charges driven off the structural aspects of the deal.
