Swiss Federal Railways will adopt a new management structure with effect from January 1 2009. The main change is the establishment of an independent property business with the same status as the passenger, freight and infrastructure divisions. SBB’s management board has been changed and expanded to reflect the change, with Urs Schlegel (right)joining as Head of the Property Division. Also appointed to the board are General Secretary Kurt Signer, Head of Computer Services Andreas Dietrich, Head of Business Development Stephan Pfuhl and Head of Communications Werner Nuber.

Achim Großmann, Parliamentary State Secretary in the German Federal Ministry of Transport, has been appointed the Ministry’s representative on the DB supervisory board. In this capacity he replaces Matthias von Randow, Secretary of State for Transport, who was dismissed following a scandal over planned bonuses for DB executives.

Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour has been appointed Pakistan’s Minister for Railways and Muhammad Jadam Mangrio has taken on the role of Minister of State for Railways. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq is Chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee for Railways.

Bob Pokorski has joined Miner Enterprises as Director of Engineering. His previous position as Vice-President, Equipment at TTX has been filled by Sharon Harmsworth.

Terry Morgan will leave his position as CEO at Tube Lines in November 2009 to take up the post of Non-Executive Chairman at Cross London Rail Links, soon to become a subsidiary of Transport for London.

Earl Wacker has been named National Manager of US consultancy URS Corp’s railway practice.

Neil Scales, CEO & Director General of UK public transport operator Merseytravel, has been appointed President of the European Platform on Mobility Management.

Michael Upchurch has been named Executive Vice-President & Chief Financial Officer at Kansas City Southern.

Ingrid Thijssen has been promoted from Director, Transport, to Director, Operations, at Dutch national rail operator NS, while Koen van Velsen will succeed Nathalie de Vries as Head Rail Architect on January 1.

Patrick Nowakowski is leaving his post as head of operations at Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority to become Executive Director of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project.

Jim Steer has been named a Vice-President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport in the UK.

E Wayne Terry has been promoted from Vice-President, Operations, to Chief Operating Officer at San Diego Trolley operator MTS Rail.

Werner Marti will join the board of AlpTransit Gotthard on January 1, and is expected to take over as Chairman when Hans-Kaspar Dick retires in spring 2009.

Shri Prakash has been named Member, Traffic, at the Indian Railways Board in succession to Vinoo N Mathur who has retired. After joining the Indian Railway Traffic Service in 1972, Prakash held a variety of posts on the Eastern and Northern Railways as well as at IR headquarters. He was most recently General Manager of the Northern Railway, and before that served as Adviser, Infrastructure, at the Railway Board.
