As part of a restructuring at Virgin Trains, Charles Belcher has joined the UK franchise operator as Managing Director of the West Coast business unit. He is succeeded as Managing Director of National Express Group’s Wessex Trains franchise by NEG FleetDirector Andrew Chivers. The former Chief Operating Officer of NEG’s Australian rail franchises Peter Strachan becomes Managing Director of Wales &Borders, replacing Chris Gibb who has joined Virgin Trains as Managing Director, CrossCountry.
With the creation of the Nafta Rail holding company to run Kansas City Southern, Tex-Mex and TFM (p244), KCS Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer Michael R Haverty has been appointed to the same post in the new company. Grupo TMM Chairman &Chief Executive Officer José Serrano will serve as Vice-Chairman of Nafta Rail and Chairman of TFM, whilst Grupo TMMPresident Javier Segovia will join the 10-person Nafta Rail board along with existing KCS directors. Mario Mohar will continue to serve as CEO of TFM.
Michael Carr has been named the Minister for Transport Services in the New South Wales state government. Vince Graham has been appointed Co-ordinator General of State Rail Authority, following the resignation of CEO Howard Lacy. John Cowling has left Rail Infrastructure Corp, and Ron Christie has become Rail Safety Regulator.
Linda J Morgan has stepped down as a member of the Surface Transportation Board with effect from April 8; as former head of the Interstate Commerce Commission, she headed the STB until the end of 2002.
On March 1 Lubomír Húska was appointed Director, Finance, at Slovakian operator Zeleznica Spolocnost, replacing Anton Jaborek who became Director, Personnel. V
