Alexander S Misharin has been appointed Senior Vice-Minister of Railway Transport in Russia. He succeeds N I Ilyin who became the ministry’s General Representative in the Czech Republic on August 1. G S Ginsburg has been named Vice-President of the Sakhalin Railway, and Dmitri D Mozhorov becomes Vice-President of the North Caucasian Railway in Rostov-on-Don. Fyodor N Kashirski has been appointed Vice-President of the South Urals Railway in Chelyabinsk.
Sally Barrett-Williams has been appointed Chief Legal Advisor and Director of Legal Services at Britain’s Office of the Rail Regulator.

Deputy Managing Director of South Africa’s state transport holding group Transnet Mafika Mkwanazi has been appointed Managing Director Designate; he will succeed Saki Macozoma who has decided to step down when his current contract ends in March 2001.

Graham Eccles has been named Executive Director, Rail Operations, at Stagecoach Holdings, and Chairman of South West Trains. He is succeeded as Managing Director of SWT by Operations Director Andrew Haines.
Hans-Rudolf Isliker is to become Director General of the International Railway Office at Switzerland’s Federal Transport Ministry. He will be succeeded as Vice-Director at the ministry by August Blunschi, with effect from November 1.
Dr W J Bukulu took over as Chief Medical Officer of Uganda Railways Corp on July 6, succeeding Dr Alex Kampikaho.

On July 26 the Croatian government dismissed the board of Croatian Railways and appointed a new Chairman and six new board members. Vice Prime Minister Slavko Linic becomes Chairman of HZ. The board members are Radimir Cacic, Minister of Renewal & Development, Damir Kustrak, Vice-Minister of Finance, Mladen Poznic from the Ministry of Transport, Dr Jure Radic, former Development Minister, Dr Marko Skreb former Governor of the National Bank of Croatia, and Darko Pavicevic representing the railway trade unions. Nikola Kancijan was named Vice-Minister of Railways on the same day, following the dismissal of Marijan Klaric.
R K Thoopal has taken over as General Manager of India’s South Eastern Railway, succeeding Ravindra Nath Malhotra who has been named Member, Engineering, at the Indian Railways Board. Ajit Kishore has become General Manager of the South Central Railway following the retirement of N C Singha.
