Bolivia’s Mines & Metallurgy Ministry says that bids will be called this year for construction of a 100 km rail link between iron ore deposits at Mutún and a proposed port at Puerto Busch on the Paraguay River.
Argentinian competition authority CNDC is considering the proposed acquisition by Camargo Corrêa of Brazil of cement manufacturer Loma Negra and its subsidiaries which include freight operator Ferrosur Roca. The deal valued at US$1·025bn is ’the largest investment in the history of the group’ according to Raphael Antonio Nogueira de Freitas, Chairman of Camargo Corrêa.
On a recent visit to Río Negro province, President of Argentina Néstor Kirchner announced a 600m pesos project to build a new railway between the port of San Antonio Oeste and Choele Choel on the Bahía Blanca - Lonquimay route. At a cost of 15·6m pesos, passenger services from Buenos Aires to Bariloche are due to be restored by the end of 2005 and to Zapala during the first quarter of 2006.
