Hitachi has developed a broadband train information and control network designated B-System, which is being marketed in conjunction with its aluminium-bodied A-Train concept. Based around the B-LAN, the system consolidates all subsystem controls into a single ’brain’. Replaceable cassette modules handle traction inverters and brakes, auxiliary equipment such as air-conditioning, lighting and doors, plus on-train video security cameras, passenger information and multimedia entertainment, and the network provides real-time links to a lineside control centre and maintenance facilities.
