Modelling and Simulation of General Train/Track Interaction

An existing state-space numerical method to simulate vertical dynamic interaction between a rolling train and a railway track has been improved and extended. The extensions add three new features to the dynamic system, these being a non-linear railpad model, flexibility of the moving vehicle, and the general three-dimensional motion of a train interacting with the track.
The generalised dynamic train/track interaction model is verified against two existing programs and good agreement of the results is obtained.
