ACCESS to the roofs and ends of rolling stock has been improved at Trenitalia’s Foggia and Foligno depots with the installation of Mover 50B self-propelled gantries from Ricci.
Mover 50B gives safe access to the full length of a carriage or locomotive, eliminating the need to use ladders to reach roof level during maintenance and cleaning.
Each 4·5 tonne gantry has a rigid steel skeleton 1·1m wide, 6·9m long and 3·4m high, and is fitted with 5 kW motors allowing it to move along the length of a train at speeds of up to 10m/min. The hydraulic working platform is controlled by a joystick, and can be positioned anywhere from 0·45m to 4·5m above rail level. Bridges can be extended 2·2m to one side, simplifying access to irregularly-shaped train ends.
Mover 50B can be fitted with a range of attachments and supply points for specialised equipment, including welding and cutting tools, air supplies and filters. Cable chains are used to give the maximum clear working area, without the need for loose power cables on the floor. A steel safety railing prevents falls, and the gantries comply with the latest European safety regulations.
