A fragrant blast
EUROSTAR passengers will enjoy an enhanced ambience following the award of a contract to fit air fresheners in the toilet compartments. Tonbridge-based Initial Healthcare was given the task of designing a system that met stringent Channel Tunnel safety regulations, which prohibited the use of aerosols, batteries or any electrical solution.
Initial’s manufacturing arm Dudley Industries came up with a ceramic tile, impregnated with perfumed oil, which is mounted inside the door leaf. A slotted panel in the door harnesses the natural draft inside the coach to waft ’a fresh blast of fragrance’ every time the door is opened. It even works when the train is stationary, and each tile is expected to last for a month between changes.
