STORSTOCKHOLMS Lokaltrafik has decided to order a further 75 Series C20 metro cars from Adtranz Sweden at a cost of SKr1·6bn. The move exercises an option in SL’s 1995 order for 75 cars, and lifts the value of the contract to SKr3·4bn.
The three-section articulated units are destined to replace SL’s 880-car metro fleet over the next decade (RG 7.97 p444). The 150 C20s on order will replace all 420 old cars on the Green line, routes 17, 18 and 19. SL has also asked Adtranz to step up the delivery rate from 15 to 44 units a year, bringing forward the completion date from 75 sets in 2002 to 150 by 2001. o
