EVENTS: A cross-section of Europe’s most senior rail professionals will come together in Roma in May at SmartRail Europe, a bespoke conference organised by Railway Gazette Events and supported by Italian national infrastructure manager RFI and the European Union research body Shift2Rail.

SmartRail Europe features a comprehensive agenda focused on the key themes facing the main line rail sector in an era of unprecedented change. The conference will take place over three days, with the first day dedicated to technical tours hosted by RFI, to be followed by formal sessions and networking opportunities over the following days.

Keynote addresses on the future of rail in Europe will be given by RFI’s President Claudia Cattani and Shift2Rail Executive Director Carlo Borghini. Other key speakers will include Robert Nisbet, Director of Nations & Regions at the UK’s Rail Delivery Group, and Bertrand Minary, Chief Innovation & Digital Officer at SNCF.

The high speed rail segment will be represented by Dyan Crowther, Chief Executive of UK infrastructure concessionaire HS1 Ltd, while the future of rail freight will be discussed by the Head of Innovation at Rail Cargo Austria, Martin Zsifkovits. Speakers from outside Europe will include Mohammad Yousef, Chapter President of Dubai-based cybersecurity specialist CS2AI, and Alla Reddy, Deputy Chief Data Research & Development Officer at New York City Transit.
