MARTA has signed a 10-year contract with Atlanta-based company The Rail Network for the installation of five 15 inch flat digital television screens in each of the 338 Atlanta metro cars.

Television news programmes will be updated four times daily, and there will be three music channels. An information channel will provide service and special event announcements. Passengers will be able to listen to English and Spanish language audio using headphones and FM radios, and subtitles will be shown. The scheme will be funded by advertising at no cost to Marta, and TRN intends to distribute up to 230000 FM radios to passengers during the launch period.

’This innovative programme will allow us to provide both information and entertainment to our customers while generating new revenue for Marta’, said General Manager & CEO Nathaniel P Ford at the unveiling of the first TV-fitted car on February 24.
