THE GOVERNMENT agency responsible for renegotiating Argentina's freight railway concessions, Uniren, is pushing ahead with the process.

A public hearing was due to be held last month to consider the latest proposals for Fepsa, and Uniren also expected to sign letters of understanding with NCA and ALL by the end of January. A new contract with Ferrosur Roca is scheduled to go before the national congress in February, to be accepted or rejected within 60 days.

The winning bidder for metre-gauge freight operator Belgrano Cargas is now expected to be announced at the end of March. The latest extension to the bidding timetable is reported to have been requested by Cargill and FEVE of Spain.
