Netherlands Railways is to refurbish its ’Wadloper’ diesel multiple-units for 12m guilders under a programme scheduled for completion by the end of this year. NS says the investment demonstrates its commitment to local services in the Groningen/Leeuwarden area.
The DMUs will undergo mid-life internal treatment including the replacement of bench seating by individual seats spaced more widely and the fitting of cab air-conditioning. The NS workshops at Tilburg will undertake the work.
- Tilburg is currently modernising 29 ex-TUI couchette coaches for use on international overnight trains, summer services for motorists and their cars, and charter trains to ski resorts operated in the winter months by NS Travel Group. Together with the purchase of the cars, the couchette project is believed to have cost 50m guilders. The upgrading includes interior refurbishment and the installation of new toilets. o
