TAIWAN Railway Administration has awarded an €90m contract to a Bombardier-led consortium for a complete automatic train protection system covering 1200 route-km. The technology will be based on the European standard Ertms, adapted where necessary to local requirements.
The order covers on-train equipment for 832 locomotives and multiple-units, 14000 balises and 2000 encoders. Also included are 13 driver training simulators, along with train data presentation equipment and cab display panels.
The consortium includes local companies Mitac and Welltec System Engineering. Mitac will co-operate in the development and supply of the simulators, the drivers’ panels and the train data presentation systems. Welltec is to design the lineside equipment and install, test and commission onboard systems. TRA will install the lineside equipment. Work was expected to start last month, with completion due to take 40 months.
