USA: Bombardier and Transportation & Transit Associates reached an agreement at the end of November for Bombardier Transportation to acquire TTA's passenger rolling stock overhaul division for an undisclosed price.
The sale includes TTA's plant at Kanona in New York state, along with associated equipment and existing overhaul contracts. TTA retains its new-build and component operations, including a contract to assemble 94 Siemens cars for Boston's Blue Line.
Mike Hardt, Vice-President, Services, at Bombardier Transportation said the acquisition significantly expands the company's overhaul capacity, allowing it to compete for larger contracts. 'There is a growing need for flexible, third-party rail services in this market as transit operators face mounting pressure to increase service efficiency and control costs'.
