METRO and tram cars can exchange data with lineside equipment using the HCS-V communications system from Hanning & Kahl. Applications include route setting and the provision of real-time passenger information at stops or onboard.

Unlimited quantities of data can be transferred to and from the HCS-V at a rate of 100kB/sec, and LEDs illuminate to confirm that the unit is exchanging information. The two-way HCS-V is compatible with the company’s established unidirectional HCS-R, switching automatically between operating modes.

The HCS-V can be linked directly to the vehicle’s onboard computer databuses, or the compact HCS-V-BD control unit can be installed in the cab. The control unit can be adapted to suit an operator’s particular needs, and is available with a range of connectors for interfacing with onboard equipment.
