Hong Kong’s MTR Corp has announced that UnionPay and WeChat Pay will be added to its QR code ticketing from February 20, complementing the existing MTR Mobile and AlipayHK apps.
The Philippines’ Department of Transportation has awarded Mitsubishi Corp a ¥140bn contract to design, manufacture, deliver and install track, signals, telecoms, power distribution, electrification, platform doors and fare collection systems for the Metro Manila Subway, which is being financed mainly by an Official Development Assistance loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Completion is planned for 2028.
Brüel & Kjær Vibro has signed a long-term agreement with Stadler Rail to install its VCM-3 condition monitoring system on 606 metro cars which Stadler is to supply for the Berlin U-Bahn. This will include vibration sensors and edge devices, as well as diagnostic and analysis services that constantly monitor bearings and other rotating parts.
The UK Department for Transport has launched consultation on what could be included in a mobility-as-a-service code of practice. This would provide guidelines about relevant legislation, support new entrants in making decisions in line with government goals, encourage platform providers to help consumers choose lower carbon journeys, provide best practice examples, and assist local authorities in developing or considering MaaS platforms.

On February 10 Uzbekistan‘s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave his backing to proposals to return trams to Toshkent, where they operated from 1912 to 2016. ‘We want to return the tram to Toshkent. There are a lot of appeals from citizens in this regard’, he told local media.

Three consortia have been invited to tender: Dragados (Dragados Canada, AECOM Canada); KSX Integrated Design-Builders (Peter Kiewit Sons, SNC-Lavalin Constructors (Pacific); and Scarborough Transit Connect (Aecon Infrastructure Management, FCC Construcción, Mott MacDonald Canada).
