Miami International Airport APM

Miami-Dade Aviation Department has renewed a contract for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries subsidairy Crystal Mover Services to operate and maintain the Skytrain peoplemover at Miami International Airport. The contract runs for five years from January 2022, with an option for a further five years, and includes renewal of the signalling systems and the supply of two additional two-car trainsets.

The German city of Schwerin is to test parcels delivery by tram from a DHL distribution centre at Neu Pampow to five pick-up points in the city.

The board of contactless ticketing standards body Calypso Networks Association has been expanded from seven to 10 members with the election of representatives of Carris, Île-de-France Mobilités, and Metropolitano de Lisboa. An advisory board of has also been created to support the views of suppliers and integrators of Calypso-based ticketing systems, alongside operators and authorities; the inaugural elected members represent Cubic Transportation Systems,HID Global, Thales DIS, and Wizway Solutions. CNA Gold Member Infineon Technologies is also represented.

München tram

München’s MVG is to begin construction of a tram depot on a former sports ground at Lauensteinstrasse during March. The first phase with 25 tracks is due to open in 2025, and there are plans to expand the depot’s capacity to house a further 25 vehicles.

Société du Grand Paris has awarded Kontron Transportation a 15 year contract to supply, install and maintain the closed-loop radio systems for the 35 km Grand Paris Express Line 18 from Orly to Versailles.

The New South Wales government has announced that the Sydney Metro‘s Hunter Street station will be developed under a ’first-of-its-kind model for an Australian public transport infrastructure project’, with bidders required to show how they will create ‘a sense of place, not just a station’.

Singapore’s Land Transport Authority has awarded a Gamuda/Wai Fong Construction Joint Venture a S$467m contract for the design and construction of the Defu station and tunnels on Cross Island Line Phase 1, and China Communications Co a S$397m contract for design and construction of the Tampines North station and tunnels. Work is expected to start in Q2 2022 for opening in 2030.

The Mumbai Metro is to provide women-only coaches on lines 2A and 7 which are scheduled to open soon. ‘Mumbai has a high participation of women in the workforce and hence, metro services will have space reserved for them throughout the operational hours’, said a metro official.

RATP has achieved the ‘exemplary’ level under French standards body AFNOR’s Engaged Corporate Social Responsibility certification. This follows evaluation of eight criteria including governance, corporate social responsibility, human resources and social, environmental and economic performance. ‘It is a huge honour for RATP and for all employees to receive the best level, a first time for a transport company’, said Marie-Claude Dupuis, Director of Strategy, Sustainable Development & Property.
