DENMARK: The Ministry of Transport has exercised an option for DB subsidiary Arriva Danmark to continue to operate local passenger services in central and western Jylland for a further two years.
‘We are obviously very pleased,’ said Arriva Danmark director Ivan Skødt Andersen on May 20. ‘We see it as a vote of confidence in Arriva as operator and proof of the quality we have delivered on our train routes over the last few years.’
The contract covers routes from Aarhus to Skjern and Struer, Struer to Thisted and Skjern, Esbjerg to Skjern and Niebüll in Germany and the Varde – Nørre Nebel branch. The services are operated using Alstom Lint 41 diesel multiple-units and total 7 million train-km/year, carrying 6·5 million passengers/year.
Arriva won an initial contract in 2003, followed by a new contract running from 2010 to 2018. This will now be extended to the end of 2020.
