USA: The board of San Francisco to San Jose commuter rail operator Caltrain has approved the operating and capital budgets for the 2023 financial year starting on July 1 2022.
The $179.2m operating budget includes $46.5m in farebox revenues, and for the second year in a row Caltrain assumes it will receive no contributions from the San Mateo County Transit District, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority and the City & County of San Francisco. The operating budget relies on Measure RR state funding, gradual ridership recovery and utilisation of State Transit Assistance funds.
The $90.9m capital budget will be funded through a combination of federal, regional and state grants, local funding and member agency funding.
The capital budget covers long-term infrastructure improvement and maintenance projects, as well as rolling stock. It includes additional funding for the Guadalupe River Bridge Replacement Project, the San Francisquito Creek Bridge Replacement Project, lineside fencing and sleeper replacement.
