SINGAPORE: Land Transport Authority has awarded contracts for the supply of vehicles and depot expansion works to support an increase in capacity on the Sengkang-Punggol Light Rapid Transit.
The rubber-tyred peoplemover links metro stations on the North East Line with growing residential areas.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engineering and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Asia Pacific are to supply 17 two-car Automated Guideway Transit trainsets, along with signalling systems, guideways and maintenance equipment for the expansion of the depot.
The current SPLRT fleet consists of 16 two-car and 25 single-car trains. The new vehicles are intended to replace the single units between 2024 and 2027.
Sato Kogyo has been awarded a separate S$157m design and build contract for the depot expansion works. Construction is expected to commence before the end of March for completion by 2027.
